Yep, I've been sick again this week. Another cold, accompanied by a bit of a fever and general exhaustion.

If you add the coughs and colds together with the back problems I have actually been ill more than I've been well since the middle of the year. It's got to the point where I found myself celebrating not feeling ill for, gosh, a whole two weeks!

At the risk of sounding terribly melodramatic, especially when I have friends with much, much more serious illnesses, I'm actually starting to get just a little bit anxious (which of course doesn't help either.) I don't understand why I keep being ill, though I guess in part it could be my immune system being a bit under par from stress - after all I've had no real stability in my working life for about three years now.

I'm tempted to go and see a doctor about it, but at the same time I feel terribly like I'm making an unnecessary fuss. But we have a doctor on call at work via our healthcare so maybe I should give them a ring...

Bah.

Ring the doctor, hon. Or we'll all be anxious.

Definitely go and see the doctor. This is one of the few points on which I feel I am qualified to speak with authority! Of course, it was only by accident that anyone figured out what was wrong with me, but still, talking to a doctor is at least a step in the right direction.

Right, I completely understand your reluctance, but I think what you describe means you need a general check-up. I think stress has bad effects - my lack of work security this year has definitely given me problems. But that doesn't mean the effects are unreal.

Doctor on call? That's exactly what he's there for. Your work would want you to make the most of it.

When was your last holiday? Have you considered taking a week off when you are well and just staying home and reading books for a few days? I'm not being fascetious: I've returned from what was essentially a working holiday in Canada in better shape than the whole of last year.

Go to the doctor. It sounds like you have some strong physical responses to stress.

I was once very straight with mine and told him that I was sorry to be troubling him about little things but I was a hypochondriac.

His response: "Sit with me for a morning and I'll show you real hypochondriacs!"

It's a lovely thought but alas, we only came back from Italy a month ago - and as wonderful as it was (and it was!), it was also very active!

I've got a couple of days off for the concert in November and that's pretty much it until Christmas! But I am, at least, off for the whole Christmas period.

Feel better soon, you. And see a doctor!
