I liked a few of his mainstream books, and by 'a few' I mean, I believe, two (The Crow Road and Espedair Street) but his science fiction was so dense that I found it impenetrable, and not worth the effort of trying.
I read China Mieville's kids' book. It could have done with a really heavy edit.
