Josie Update 2
Oct. 19th, 2006 04:29 pmI've got Josie back from the vets and the impression is a little more optimistic than before. Basically she could have a tumour or it could be cysts, but she has probably got weeks or even months, rather than days as we originally thought.
We've got some tablets to give her which will help bring the liquid level down and make her more comfortable. Other than that we just have to keep looking after her until there is some significant degeneration, in which case we will have to take her back for another look.
So a slightly better picture than earlier.

Date: 2006-10-19 04:47 pm (UTC)Also: no two cats are alike, of course, but - well, my Sophie was diagnosed with tumour, and given weeks to live. After six months, it clearly wasn't that, so they went for inoperable cyst, and maybe months more.
Couple of years later, great big swelling on her shoulder; operable, but if it was a tumour they didn't want to wake her up after, and if it was a cyst she might not survive the anaesthetic anyway, so...
It was a cyst, and while she was under they investigated t'other thing more fully, and it turned out to be a grotesquely enlarged spleen (my Sophie, splenetic? Never!) and they didn't really know why, but she managed fine for a couple more years after that...
All I'm saying is that cats' innards are a curious place, and it ain't always the most likely thing, or the most lethal. Occam's Razor doesn't apply, in felines.
