New Toy

So I'm sitting in bed typing this note on my brand shiny new Samsung DC10 Netbook.

So far it seems to be working okay. Setting up the wireless was very straightforward. The only issue was when I unplugged it from the mains it kept powering down completely. After a while I worked out what the problem was: guess who hadn't actually inserted the battery?!

Most of the rest of the has been downloading the normal software and getting rid of what I don't want. So out went IE and in comes FireFox; out goes the trial McAfee and in comes AVG.And I'm now downloading Open Office, which I've not used before so that's an experiment!

I like new toys once in a while...!

(Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker  for pointing me in the direction of the PC Pro review).

Glad to be of service.

I've found AVG to be a bit of a hog on low-power machines. I've heard that Avast is better.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see how we go - I do like AVG Free generally.

What I have also just noticed is that the system date isn't set right. Grrr.
