That sounds a lot like the problem I had - sudden shutdown with no warning. For me, the CPU fan was spinning but it wasn't seated properly on the CPU. In the end I bought a new fan, as the old one had a broken screw bit so I couldn't get it to stay on properly. It might be worth checking that your fan is seated properly and there's a good layer of thermal paste on there, and then try a new fan?
