How the year passes...

pennski's parents for Christmas day, the best part of which was managing to have a really good long Mah Jong session in the evening - the only time we get to play is when we visit the in-laws.
We did have to put up with the ocassional silly pronouncement from Uncle-in-law. For example, apparently Americans cannot tell reality from fiction - his proof for this being that he went to see Apollo 13 in the cinema in Seattle and they were going 'ooh' and 'ahh' at various points as if it were real. I pointed out, rather acerbically I admit, that this is called 'getting emotionally involved in the action' which is not uncommon - among normal people. Yes, I know, how to win friends and influence people...
Boxing day evening was at my mum's. The annual game of Trivial Pursuit didn't get finished - everyone got bored before anyone actually came close to winning. But we did take along our Singstar games for the PS2 which seemed to go down pretty well (apart from mum being too embarrassed to take part). My nephew has put an account of his performance at his LJ:ddothill, but it seemed one of the highlight was my performance of The Darkness' "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" (sing with gusto and, half the time, falsetto, and you'll be fine!).
Other than that, it has been quite quiet. I've written close to a thousand words of a new story this week, did some shopping, got some exercise, made a Spitfire out of Meccano (Christmas present frompennski).
We went to see The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe at the cinema. I'm not the fan of the books thatpennski is, but overall I enjoyed it. A couple of comments: James MacAvoy gives a good performance as Mr Tumnus but he's a bit young and Aslan looked good, but needed a deeper voice. The kids were pretty good though, especially Edmund and Lucy.
