A TV Question

One of the British TV channels starts to run Bones next week. Is it worth watching? I know bibliofile watches it - any comments? Am I going to find it deeply annoying for its lack of resemblence to the books?

Yep, the books are by Kathy Reichs and the author biography makes it fairly clear that Brennan is based on her.
In the books Brennan is (I'd guess) early forties, divorced with a child of university age. She works part time for the police department in Quebec and part time at an American university (possibly in Carolina, but I would put money on it...). She also teaches for the FBI.
The first book Deja Dead is very good. The second, Death Du Jour, is also quite good, but falls apart a bit on the grounds that it needs something like 3 or 4 stonking coincidences to keep Brennan tied in with the plot. Oh yes, and towards the end she uses 'light year' as a unit of time twice in about 10 pages...
The third, Deadly Décisions, is sitting on the unread book shelves so no comments yet!

On the intelligence of the experts thing, that's one of the reasons I like the CSI programmes: it is predicated on people using their brains! In a bizarre way it kind of reminds me of the old Mission Impossible tv series for that.

I had not thought about the Mission Impossible factor, but you are certainly right. It's a pleasure to see smart people using their expertise to accomplish something. That's why I used to enjoy MacGyver too... well, at least for the first couple of seasons.
