Visual treat but...
Jun. 12th, 2006 07:19 pmWe finally got to see Mirrormask last night and I start to understand many of the reviews I saw.
To start with it is visually stunning, particularly once you get into the dream world. Dave McKean has a weird mind and I kinda like it (early on
pennski muttered 'This would never be a commercial hit').
But the script was weak. I bow to few in my admiration for Neil Gaiman but this was pretty much quest plotting by numbers (like the faithful friend betraying our heroine for money and then repenting). Also some elements of the plot seemed to be untimely ripped from Gaiman's own Coraline.
So, fascinating to watch, but better luck next time with the scripts, guys!

Date: 2006-06-13 12:29 am (UTC)I don't watch many movies, but this one has been recommended to me. I'd have to overcome my irrational dislike of Dave McKean's artwork to get myself to watch it, though, I guess.
