Minor camera technology fail

bookzombieOkay, can someone please explain to me why it is that when I plug my Canon EOS 400D into the computer pictures download smoothly using the windows import facility, but the bundled Canon utility refuses to recognise the camera?
Sigh.
ETA. Of course, after a quick google search the solution was obvious: the software was slightly out of date and wasn't valid for Windows VISTA. One quick download and all is working fine!
